I’m Dr. Rwany Sibaja and I’m excited to work with you this semester.
This is my tenth year at App State, where I primarily serve as the Director of the History Education Program. My research areas are: modern Latin America, sports, and digital history, as well as the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).

Born in NJ, I’ve lived across the U.S. (Southern California, South Florida, NC, northern Virginia, MD), Costa Rica, and Argentina. I’m a proud First-Generation scholar and son of Costa Rican immigrants. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and adventuring with my wife, two college-aged children, and our dog Django. As a “tico,” I have been accused of being a bit of a coffee snob, but I always enjoy looking for the perfect blend and brewing combo.
I earned my Ph.D. in History from George Mason University, M.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and B.A. in History (9-12 Social Studies Education) from Elon University as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. My current book project is on Argentine Soccer and middle-class anxieties. At ASU, I teach HIS 3626, 3310, 3630 and 5450.
